ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) decided to exclude the names of late filers from the active taxpayers list (ATL) with effect from September for current FY-2018-19.

Official sources told Customs Today that the board has decided to leave out the names of those filers who file their income tax returns late from the due date specified by the board.

This will be implemented from September, 2018 for the current fiscal year 2018-19. Sources said that those filers who didn’t comply with the due date to file the income tax returns from September 2018 and onward will be treated as non-filers and they will have to pay the taxes with extra taxes as like non-filers.

Sources said that FBR has already specified the audit mechanism for the late filers in the Finance Bill 2018-19 and amendments are made in the income tax ordinance while also removed the Section 214 (D) in the said ordinance related to the audit of late filers under which late filer will not be selected for the audit. The basic aim behind this decision is to discourage the late filers, sources added.
