KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspect Attaullah son of Sardar, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 19250 kilograms betel nuts etc.
On January 8, 2019, investigation officer of Intelligence & Investigation-FBR produced the above-mentioned suspect and informed the court that on an actionable information, a team of customs officials intercepted a Hino truck and recovered 19250 kilogram betel nuts valuing to Rs3,850,000, whey powder foreign origin 1711 kilograms worth Rs190,263, WAX granules F/O 4788 kilograms worth Rs885,157.
He further informed the court that during the search, the suspect was asked to produce any lawful documents, however, he failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, after the formalities, goods were taken into custody and suspect was also arrested by customs officials.
He submitted that prosecution needs further investigations for arrest of absconders therefore, court may grant his physical remand, after the hearing, court sent suspect to customs department on physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce him on next date of hearing along with progress report.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 168 of the customs act, 1969 for violation of Section 2 (s) 16 punishable under Section 156(1) (8) & (89) & 157 (2) of Customs Act, 1969 read with Section 3(1) 3 of Imports & Exports Control Act, 1950.
