AFU seizes different items worth Rs 28.6m during the month of July

ISLAMABAD: Customs Preventive Air Freight Unit (AFU) Islamabad seized miscellaneous smuggled goods amounting to Rs 28.6 million during the first month of financial year 2016-17.

Additional Collector Khawaja Khuram Naeem told Customs Today that AFU made different seizures after receiving  information from Collector Dr Arslan Subugteen in month of July 2016 and collected a handsome amount.

He said that it is very common that during Eid holidays some smugglers try to bring smuggled wine while others people try to bring non-duty paid items.

He said that AFU made six big seizers of different items which includes whisky, currency, mobile phones, medicines, memory cards, and heroin during the month of July of financial 2016-17.

The additional ccollector said that Custom staff of AFU seized 400000 Saudi riyal during the month of July.

He said that Customs staff also seized imported brands of 199 bottles of smuggled liquor, the total value of said liquor bottles is Rs 9,95,000, and AFU seized 1645 mobile phones under value of Rs24,70,0000.

The additional collector said that AFU seized 16 kilograms of banned medicines under value of Rs 625000 and also seized 10500 foreign origin memory cards under value of Rs10, 0000.

Khawaja said that the AFU also seized 21.32 kilograms of heroin. He said that most of time heroin recovered from those passengers who were going to Middle East.

He said that smugglers are using another big source of sending consignment of heroin through International Mail Office (IMO), our efficient staff at IMO as well as on airport is efficiently working to checking the passengers and international mails and parcels.
