AIB of Appraisement West detects anomalies in clearance of consignments

KARACHI: The Appraising Intelligence Branch (AIB) of Customs Appraisement West has detected anomalies in several consignments of chemicals, which have been cleared from the Collectorate in back dates, it is learnt here.

The sources informed Customs Today that the authorities concerned, while following the directives of the Collector Dr Farid Iqbal Qureshi, had started to scrutinize the imported consignments of chemicals.

“During the scrutiny of the chemical consignments, it was found that several importers have misused the PCT heading in clearance of consignments,” sources added.

The sources further said that the authorities concerned of AIB have detected around 17 Goods Declaration (GDs) of imported consignments of chemicals in which the importers have mis-used the PCT Heading while clearing the consignments; adding that further investigation in this regard is being continued.

The sources further said that millions of rupees tax evasion has already been witnessed in the clearance of chemicals’ consignments adding that the scrutiny process is being continued in this regard.

Responding to a query, the sources said that a tip-off information was received in the Customs Appraisement West that the consignments of the chemicals are being cleared under wrong PCT Heading which was promptly reacted by the Collector  Appraisement (West) Dr Farid Iqbal Qureshi.

The sources disclosed that the Show Cause Notices (SCNs) are being prepared by authorities concerned of AIB which would be served to the importers soon.
