APTTCA to establish pilot transit mileage for Pak, Afghan trucks

KARACHI: Afghanistan Pakistan Transit Trade Coordination Authority (APTTCA) has agreed to establish a pilot transit mileage for Afghan and Pakistani trucks on their territories.

Sources told Customs Today that for the coordination of the Afghanistan Pakistan Transit Trade, the APTTCA has come up with solutions of unresolved issues. APTTCA has decided Afghan trucks through Torkham and Chaman points to Wagha will transport Afghan exports to India and Pakistani trucks will carry the export items to the port of Panj Sher Khan Bandar (the border of Tajikistan). The Afghan trucks will also transport Pakistani exports to Afghanistan during the return journey.

Similarly, Pakistani trucks will also be allowed to carry Tajik and Central Asian export goods during the return journey to Pakistan, sources added.

It is pertinent to mention here that the trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan has increased in recent years, it may grow even more. In 2000-2001, Pakistani exports to Afghanistan reached Rs 14.7 billion a year. Today, it is measured at Rs 261.9 billion a year, but the country would like to figure amounted to Rs 523.9 billion.
