CANBERRA: Australia customs seized deadly cannabis during adult shop raids. The drug deaths of two men in Mackay this week prompted raids on Love Heart Adult Stores in Toowoomba, Bundaberg, Rockhampton and Mackay along with private residences connected to the stores, Detective Acting Superintendent Darrin Shadlow said on Thursday morning.
The central police region acting regional crime co-coordinator said people underestimated the danger of the drug, which is cannabis laced with a chemical compound. “It’s a chemical compound that they are smoking – it’s not meant for human consumption.Unfortunately people are selling it to make a quick dollar out of it and they are putting people’s lives at risk.”
Two men, aged 33 and 41, died after smoking on Tuesday a type of the drug being marketed as Full Moon tea.Superintendent Shadlow said the drug had proven deadly, even in small amounts.Both were believed to be smoking the synthetic cannabis Full Moon just prior to collapsing and not regaining consciousness,” he said.It is known one of the male persons had only one draw and never regained consciousness.”Charges are yet to be laid over the raids but Superintendent Shadlow said police would allege the drug was packaged and available for covert sale at the four stores.
He said the commercial-style packaging could lead users to think the drug was not as dangerous as it actually was.It’s certainly a problem, these plant materials are laced with a chemical compound and this chemical compound is highly dangerous, which is shown by the deaths recently,” he said.He declined to say whether more raids were on the horizon.
