CBP seizes cocaine worth $470K at Hidalgo international bridge

HIDALGO: U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge seized 61 pounds of alleged cocaine that was detected within a Dodge Journey driven by a man from Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico.

“Our officers’ outstanding commitment in the effort towards keeping dangerous drugs from entering through our border crossings has enabled them to intercept these hard narcotics at one of our international bridges,” said Acting Port Director Javier Cantu, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.

Bundles containing 61 pounds of cocaine seized by CBP officers at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International BridgeThe seizure occurred on May 1, after a tan 2010 Dodge Journey arrived at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge from Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico. A CBP officer referred the vehicle, and the driver, a 49-year-old male Mexican citizen after he presented his Mexican border crossing card for a secondary examination. In secondary, with the use of all available tools and resources, officers discovered 25 packages of alleged cocaine hidden within the vehicle. CBP officers removed and seized the narcotics which carry an estimated street value of $470,560 and seized the Dodge SUV as well.

CBP OFO arrested the man from Saltillo and subsequently released him to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents for further investigation.
