Chief collectors to assist FIA for probing cases against customs officers

KARACHI: The Pakistan Customs chief collectors of all regions will coordinate with the investigating teams of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for probing the corruption cases of custom officers, it is learnt.

The move is said to have been taken to avoid inordinate delay in the disposal of FIA cases/inquiries related to the FBR and the Customs Department, sources told Customs Today.

In this regard, the FIA director general has written a letter to the FBR Chairman Nisar Muhammad Khan requesting him to nominate the focal persons of senior level who could be approached for provision of information and documents to be required for investigation, the sources added.

And finally the FBR has nominated all the chief collectors of appraisement and enforcement of all regions as focal persons to coordinate with the FIA investigation teams.

“The competent authority has nominated the following officers to act as focal persons in respect of various offices of Customs Department mentioned against each for processing of FIA’s request for provision of information required for enquiries/investigation”, says FBR’s letter exclusively available with Customs Today.

According to letter, Customs Appraisement-South Chief Collector Abdul Rashid Sheikh, has been nominated as focal persons for Model Customs Collectorates Appraisement-West, Appraisement-East and Port Qasim.

While, Enforcement-South Chief Collector Muhammad Zahid Khokhar assigned to coordinate for Customs Exports, Exports Port Qasim, Preventive, Hyderabad, Quetta and Gwadar.

Customs North Chief Collector Sarwat Tahira will coordinate for Peshawar Customs, Islamabad Customs, Sialkot Customs and Gilgit-Baltistan, while Customs Central Region Chief Collector Samaira Nazir has been nominated focal person for Lahore Customs Appraisement, Preventive, Faisalabad and Multan.
