KARACHI: Custom Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi awarded 20 days imprisonment along with Rs 50,000 fine each to eight suspects who were arrested in a case of attempting to smuggle 26,500 litters diesel through wooden boat.
During the hearing, Investigation Officer Aijaz Ahmed Khoso produced the suspects, Muhammad Naeem, Ameer Shad, Muhammad Ghani, Zakir Hussain, Zahoor ul Haq, Shah Khalid, Muhammad Yousaf and Muhammad Anwar before the court.
At this movement, counsels for the suspects filed applications, stating that the accused persons have confessed to the charge against them. He said that they committed the offense due to poverty and wrong advice and undertook not to repeat such an offense in future. They have left themselves on the mercy of the court.
After pleading guilty, the court counted 20 days as undergone period. If fine is not paid, then the suspects would suffer six months further imprisonment in Central Jail Karachi.
According to the prosecution, on credible information dated October 22, 2016 staff of the anti-smuggling organization intercepted the wooden boat when it came in Pakistani water and during search found smuggled non-duty paid 26500 litters diesel from their possession market value of approximately to Rs. 17, 75, 500.
According to the FIR, after formalities, custom authorities had arrested the above named accused persons and seized the said diesel and Al Nasiri named boat. Case was registered by complainant Dil Waris khan, senior preventive officer custom house Karachi in violation of section 2 (s) read with section 178 of custom act 1969 of section (1) ibid.
