Customs Adjudication-II continues recovering taxes from defaulters by issuing notices

KARACHI: The Custom Adjudication-II is showing outstanding performance by taking actions against tax defaulters and continues issuing notices in the current month.

Source said the Customs Adjudication-II has served a final notice on a defaulter named M/s Shuja Arain Traders and recovered Rs5.98million from M/s Arshi Textile Ltd Karachi.

M/s Shuja Arain Traders was found involved in the tax evasion. The company imported aluminum scrap and big nut bolts numbered 49 on August 16, 2017 and used the wrong PCT heading.

After a careful investigation, the Customs Adjudication-II issued a final notice to the company and cleared the outstanding amount of Rs3.50million.

Source told reporter that another company M/s Arshi Textile Ltd Karachi got cleared a consignment of white Lattha on September 2 and evaded tax amount of Rs5.98million.

After the investigation, Customs Adjudication-II served a show cause notice on the company on August September 16, but it failed to clear the outstanding tax amount.

On that time Collector Customs Adjudication-II Muhammad Javed issued a final notice to the company on October 6, 2017. After receiving the notice, the company deposited Rs5.98million in favor of the Customs Department.

Source said newly appointed Collector Customs Adjudication-II Tahir Qureshi is investigating nine more cases during the current month. About nine more show-cause or final notices will be issued to the defaulted companies. Source said Tahir Qureshi is calling the meetings of the staffers on daily bases and issuing orders for better performance.
