Customs Appellate Tribunal Bench-I postpones hearing of Mughal Steel case

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Appellate Tribunal Bench-I on Wednesday heard a case filed by M/s Mughal Steel, challenging a decision of the Collectorate of Customs, Peshawar, to pay Rs 54 million as duty.

A division bench of the Tribunal, comprising Member Judicial Muhammad Maqsoodul Hassan and Member Technical, Muhammad Nasir Khan, heard the case filed by the appellant.

According to details, M/s Mughal Steel had exported steel girders of different qualities and values in violation of the permission granted by the department. The department asked the company to pay duty on the exported items after discovering that short amount was paid. However, the appellant had challenged the decision and asked the tribunal to set aside the decision has it had already paid the due duty.

On Wednesday, the tribunal heard brief arguments on the case and directed the administration to set the next date of hearing on month of April. Meanwhile, the tribunal also directed the counsels to provide relating material before the bench on next hearing.
