ISLAMABAD: The Customs Appellate Tribunal heard a number of customs references during second week of December and adjourned the cases for upcoming dates.
A single bench of the tribunal comprising Syed Muhammad Anwar heard the cases filed by M/s Lucky Enterprises, Haq Nawaz and Wasif Hussain. All of these cases had been filed during 2016. The bench adjourned the harings following absence of the responding counsels from the tribunal.
M/s Lucky Enterprises had challenged customs duty assessment sustained by the adjudication. Haq Nawaz and Wasif Hussain had filed cases for the release of vehicles which were seized by the customs authorities during various actions.
The department has not yet filed any objection against the cases. Following the absence of counsels, the bench adjourned hearing for the next week.
Meanwhile, the same bench also adjourned the hearing of M/s Warid Telecom (Private) Limited’s case after respondent’s counsel sought time to furbish details of the case.
Through the petition, the company had challenged a decision announced by the adjudication for sustaining claims of recoverable customs duty of around Rs 40 million.
The tribunal had held the hearing last week and told the counsels to ensure their presence on the next hearing. The tribunal had issued the directives through assisting counsels who had appeared instead of the main counsels.
