Customs Court accepts charge-sheet in betel nuts smuggling case

KARACHI: Pakistan Coast Guards has submitted charge-sheet against suspects namely Muhammad Ishaq son of Abdul Ghafoor and Allauddin son of Abdul Ghafoor, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 4675 kilogram betel nuts and other contraband goods.

On September 11, 2018, Hafiz Muhammad Amir, investigation officer of Pakistan Coast Guards, submitted charge-sheet before the court and informed that an actionable information was received that a Hino Mazda truck bearing registration number: NAC-277 loaded with smuggle 4675 kilogram betel nuts is coming from Quetta for Karachi.

He further informed that on an information, team of the Pakistan Coast Guards intercepted said vehicle at Pakistan Coast Guards Super Highway Road checking. During the search, they recovered 4675 kilogram betel nuts, 147 bags of apple and 150 crats of tomato and accused were asked to produce lawful documents of said goods; however, they failed to provide any lawful documents; therefore, said goods along with vehicle were seized and suspects were also arrested.

He further said that during the investigation, accused have confessed that they were smuggling said goods from Quetta to Karachi and they were paid only Rs2500 for smuggling of said goods.

Investigation officer stated that both accused are in custody and confined in Central Jail Karachi. After his arguments, the court accepted charge-sheet and case was fixed for regular hearing.
