Customs Court directs IO to submit callan against M/s Marosh in mis-declaration scam

KARACHI: The Customs Court directed investigation officer of Customs Collectorate of Appraisement West to complete further investigation and submit a progress report against Azam Waheed, owner of M/s Marosh, and others, who were alleged nominated in a first information report (FIR) for mis-declaration of description, misuse of green channel, under valuation of goods in violation of valuation ruling 1282/2018.

On 23 August 2021, investigation officer submits another FIR and informs the court that credible information was received that M/s Agility & Co, M/s M.A.W & Company, M/s Marosh and others are involved in clearance of sanitary goods through misuse of green channel facility of WeBoc system by under valuation of the goods by declaring misleading description.

He further informs the court that during the examination, customs officials found Pedestal Pan with seat cover, Pedestal Pan with cistern 1 PC, Squatting pan with cistern instead of declared goods, water closet etc.

He added that during the investigation, it was established that beyond reasonable double that the above-mentioned importer, with their co-conspirators, accomplices, abettors, financers, facilitators, and any others (to be identified during the course of investigation) have breached the trust extended to them in the form of green channel facility and deprived the govt exchequer of legitimate duties and taxes to the tune of Rs12, 223, 841.

After the hearing, the court took FIR into court record and directed him to complete the investigation and submit a progress report against them on the next date of hearing.
