Customs Court extends judicial remand of Muhammad Rizwan in Gold smuggling case

LAHORE: Chaudhary Ameer Muhammad Khan, the special judge of the Customs and Taxation Court, has sent Muhammad Rizwan, an alleged smuggler, to jail on judicial remand for 14 days.

Muhammad Rizwan was on a judicial remand for 14 days and before this he was in the custody of the Customs investigation team that grilled the accused to dig out more persons behind smuggling.

Earlier Customs Preventive had confiscated seven kilogram of gold from a passenger at the Allama Iqbal International airport. Muhammad Rizwan son of Hadayatullah, who is a resident of Kot Khawaja Saeed, Lahore was booked by the Customs airport authorities when they recovered 600-tola gold worth Rs 30 million from his possession. The passenger was coming from Dubai by Emirates flight EK-622.

The customs authorities have registered second case of gold smuggling from and into country during November, making a total seizure of 11 kilograms of gold.

Earlier, the customs authorities seized 4 kg of gold from a passenger when he tried to smuggle the gold from Sharja to Lahore.
