Earlier, Toufeeq Butt was on pre-arrest bail granted by the Lahore High court (LHC), which was cancelled later. After the cancellation of the bail, the customs authorities arrested him and presented him before the Customs Court, where Special Judge Chaudhary Ameer Muhammad Khan sent him on physical remand twice.

It is pertinent to mention here that Abdul Basit, who made revelations about Toufeeq Butt, was arrested by customs authorities deployed at Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore when he was attempting to smuggle 10 kilograms gold to UAE.
