Customs Court seeks charge sheet against M/s Laiba Traders

KARACHI: The Customs Court directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit charge sheet against Muhammad Usman, proprietor of M/s Laiba Traders, Muhammad Ashraf, Zesshan Liaqat, clearing agents against others, who were nominated in tax evasion case.

On November 2, 2019, investigation officer of Appraisement East informed the court that on an actionable information, physical examination has been conducted jointly by R&D’s representative Kaleem Azmat Chatta, appraising officer and undersigned from terminal, in the presence of the duty collector, SAPT, the goods valuing Rs21.711,428 have been recovered instead of goods declared at value of Rs1,596,455.

He further submits that the above mentioned suspects along with partners of M/s Mayo Enterprises attempted to evaded legitimate revenue to tune of Rs8,013,467, he said that during the investigation, it is established that above mentioned suspects committed mis-declaration and fiscal fraud as defined under section 32 & 32A of the customs act, 1969 thus, accused importer and their accomplice have violated the provisions of section 2 (s) 32 (1) & 32(A) and 79 of the customs act, 1969, further read with section 3, 6 7A, 33 and 34 of the sales tax act, 1990 punishable under clauses 8 (i) 14, 44 and 45 of the section 156 (1) of the customs act, 1969 read with relevant laws, in order to evade Rs. 8, 013, 467 legitimate government revenue.

After the hearing, court taken documents on court record and directed him to submit charge sheet on next date of hearing.
