Customs Export foils bid to smuggle prohibited drug to Dubai

KARACHI: Model Customs Collectorate Export has foiled a bid to smuggle a huge quantity of prohibited medicines abroad.

According to the details, Collector Customs Export Chaudhary Muhammad Javeed, during a news conference at Customs House, said that some exporters are musing the facilities provided by the government and tarnishing the image of the country.

He said that the staff of the Customs Export checked goods declaration of a company, M/s Mega Industries, and examined the consignment shipped for Jabel Ali port in Dubai from Faisalabad.

In the goods declaration, the agent, M/s International Clearing, declared the consignment as cloth in challan no: 64. However, the Collector Customs Export revealed that the customs officers recovered 20,000 packets of a prohibited medicine named Zenix from the consignment. He said that 14 tonne cloth  and the medicine worth more than Rs 8 million have been seized.

Collector Customs Export stated that for the export of the Zenix medicine which is used for the mental relaxation, the permission has to be sought from the drugs regulatory authority and after fulfilling the criteria the concern drugs are export.

In past the concern shipper have shipped five consignment which were cleared but now acting on the tip of higher authority the consignment of the cloths carrying prohibited has been busted timely, added Collector Customs Export Chaudhary Muhammad Javeed.

It s pertinent to mention here that Collector Export Chaudhary Muhammad Javed already directed his staff to use all available resources to curb smuggling attempts.
