KARACHI: Chief Collector Enforcement-South Muhammad Zahid Khokhar has said that the Pakistan Customs foiled dozens of smuggling bids and registered 101 seizure cases, involving an amount of Rs 316.5 million, from April 2016 to October 2016.
He was addressing a press conference at East Wharf here on Wednesday. Collector Preventive Dr Saifuddin Junejo, Additional Deputy Collector Dr Naveed Memon and Deputy Collector Anti-Smuggling Organization Ali Raza Sipra were also present on the occasion. Khokhar said that the Collectorate of Customs has launched a fresh drive to curb smuggling of Iranian petroleum products and other foreign contraband goods mainly arriving from Balochistan through RCD Highway and other coastal routes.
“As a result of the fresh offensive, the Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) of Customs Preventive has made sizeable seizures of huge quantities of smuggled/non-duty paid Iranian diesel, contraband goods, electronic items, clothes, cigarettes, household items, crockery, perfumes, cosmetics, non-duty paid vehicles, conveyances and other merchandise goods worth million of rupees during the last six months from April 2016 to October 2016.
Chief Collector Enforcement South Zahid Khokhar said the ASO recovered some 44,000 liters of Iranian origin diesel at Mochko from oil containers. In another case, the ASO foiled smuggling bids and recovered more than 4000 liters of Iranian diesel from Mochko and at Superhighway in separate raids. And, it also conducted various raids and confiscated Indian origin gutka wroth more than Rs 10 million during the above said period.
