Customs impounds vehicles worth Rs 201m in FY2015-16

ISLAMABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate impounded 28 non-duty paid vehicles and 156 other vehicles being used for transportation of smuggled goods worth Rs 201.463 million during the financial year 2015-16.

Islamabad Customs Preventive Deputy Collector Shahid Jan said that anti-smuggling activity helped the collectorate impound non-duty paid vehicles and saved national exchequer from loss of millions of rupees.

He said that the collectorate showed outstanding performance and seized numbers of smuggled vehicles, which were brought into country through unauthorised routes without payment of duty/taxes leviable thereon.

During fiscal year 2015-16, the department impounded 28 non-duty vehicles worth Rs 60.163 million and 156 vehicles being used for transportation of smuggled goods worth141.30 million, he said.

Collector Arslan showed satisfaction over the performance of the staff and urged them to tighten noose around the smuggler in order to plug leakage of revenue, he informed, adding that the collector also directed the official to continue the anti-smuggling driver in region during current fiscal year 2016-17.

The deputy collector said that the collectorate has started monitor the performance of anti-smuggling squad with the start of new financial year 206-17.
