Customs Intelligence detains non duty paid BMW from Chinese citizen

ISLAMABAD: Directorate General Customs Intelligence and Investigation Federal Board of Revenue special car cell has detained a non duty paid BMW car Model 2004 value Rs 5.3 million.

According to the sources on tip off, staff of special car cell intercepted a non duty paid BMW car bearing Islamabad registration No. ICT MF 763, at sector F-8, Islamabad, from the possession of a Chinese citizen.

Intelligence Officer of special car cell Gul Nawaz Khan asked the driver of the vehicle to produce legal documents and lawful proof of import of the vehicle but the driver and owner of car failed to produce any evidence regarding the legal or lawful possession of the vehicle BMW and pleaded that he has bought this car from Malakand Agency, he work for Chinese company which is working on CPEC project.

On scrutiny of record Excise and Taxation office and Motor Registration Authority Islamabad no data of BMW car found existed. As per Pakistan Revenue Automation Ltd (PRAL) and auction data available with Directorate General, no import and auction entry found against the vehicle car BMW. Special car cell detained the vehicle under section 17 of the Customs Act, 1969 for further verification of its import and auction status and payment of duty and taxes.
