KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Preventive started crackdown against Indian goods being smuggled into the country.
Sources told that a meeting was held which was presided over by Collector Saquif Saeed. Additional Collector Haroon Waqar Malik, Assistant Collector Shafi Ullah and Superintendent Iftikhar Hassan also attended the meeting. During the meeting a comprehensive strategy was adopted to foil attempts of smuggling in the region.
Earlier, Colletcor Preventive Saquif Saeed received credible information from a traders organization that huge quality of Indian origin goods are dumped in a godown. The anti-smuggling squad led by Assistant Collector Safiullah raided the godown and recovered 50,000 kilogram Indian cloth, 25,000 kilograms Indian smuggled yarn. The net value of smuggled goods is Rs140 million.
It is necessary to mention here that this is a major operation against smuggled goods so far. Smuggling is also causing huge loss to our national kitty. Due to crackdown against smuggling goods, local industries is also expanding.
Government is also tightening noose against smugglers and anyone who found involved in smuggling will be dealt with iron hands and their properties will be confiscated.
Collector Preventive Saquif Saeed directed all anti-smuggling squads to conclude investigations of smuggling cases on priority basis and forward reports to courts.
