ISLAMABAD: Directorate of Cross Border Currency Movement Director Abdul Waheed Marwat and Secretary FATF Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Azhar Husain Merchant addressed officers of Customs during one-day course on money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism and investigating currency seizures cases, held here at Customs DOT&R Islamabad.
According to details, the Directorate of Training & Research (Customs), Islamabad has conducted one-day course on “Anti Money Laundering (AML)/Combating the Financing of Terrorism (CFT)/ Investigation In Currency Seizure Cases” for officers/officials in BS-16 to BS-18 of Pakistan. The aim of the course was to apprise participants about background of FATF & its requirements from Pakistan, National Risk Assessment of Terror Financing, Sectoral Risk Assessment Report on Cash Smuggling, investigation of currency seizures, domestic and international cooperation on targeting, detecting and investigating currency smuggling cases.
Director Directorate of Training and Research Azmat Tahira in her opening address welcomed the guest speakers Abdul Waheed Marwat, Director, Directorate of Cross Border Currency Movement, Islamabad and Azhar Hussain Merchant, Secretary FATF, Federal Board of Revenue, Islamabad who also addressed the participants.
The Director of Training emphasized the importance of subject training in the present scenario of the economic condition of Pakistan & its inclusion in grey list while both the guest speakers shared their knowledge and expertise with the participant of the course and apprised them of the future steps which are being taken by the federal government to prevent the money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism.
After completing the lectures, a question/answer session was held. Pre-course and post-course questionnaires were also filled by the participants. In the feedback the participants praised the subject course and efforts taken by the Training Directorate and its officers and staff to conduct a successful course while later on ‘fateha khawani’ was also offered for deceased Deputy Collector Dr. Qudoos Sheikh who was martyred by the smugglers in an attack at Quetta in Balochistan during his official duty whereas at the end of course, certificates of course participation were distributed amongst the participants.
