ISLAMABAD: Dr Shamshad Akhtar, a former State Bank of Pakistan governor, has been handed the finance ministry.
The federal cabinet of interim Prime Minister Nasirul Mulk took oath on Tuesday to take up their responsibilities and ministries.
Dr Shamshad, PhD, development economist, diplomat and intellectual, also took the oath of finance ministry, which was left leader-less when former finance minister Ishaq Dar resigned amid corruption probe. For five months, the ministry was hung with no invigilation. Dr Miftah Ismail was sworn in as finance minister in April for one month.
Dr Shamshad’s portfolio includes Ministry of Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs, Ministry of Statistics, Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform and additional responsibility includes Ministry of Commerce and Textile, Ministry of Industries and Production.
