Goods transport association rejects 16pc sales tax

LAHORE: All Pakistan Goods Transport Association has rejected 16 percent sales tax on goods transport imposed by the Punjab government.

President of the association Shaukat Ali and Secretary General Tariq Nabeel said that roads all over the Punjab will be blocked if government did not withdraw tax on goods transport.

The Punjab government has imposed 16 percent tax on goods transport in budget 2015-16 that was atrocity of government on goods transporter, they added.

Goods transporter were already paying token tax and tool tax and the business already facing loss, transporters said adding that such imposition of taxes would cripple the transporters.

Goods transporter demanded the government that economic death of goods transporter stopped otherwise the goods transport business will be closed forever.

The decision was taken in a meeting held under President Shauket Ali and General Secretary Tariq Nabeel. Chairman Sultan Mehmood, vice president Aleem Butt and Shrafat Gull also participated.
