SIALKOT: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has impounded a van of unregistered private security agency from Daska for illegally transporting a huge amount of foreign currencies to Lahore.
Gujranwala Division Deputy Director Chaudhary Khalid Anees, following credible information regarding the currency smuggling, formed a team comprising Sub-Inspectors Rana Muhammad Mustehsan Khan, Javaid Iqbal and Dilawar Hussain.
The team established pickets near Daska and Gujranwala and intercepted a security van bearing Registration No. LZA-9901 and recovered foreign currency in bulk, including 234,600 Saudi Riyals, 558 Omani Riyals, 352 Kuwaiti Dinars, 16,400 UAE Dirhams and 3450 Canadian dollars. The FIA also recovered one pistol and one shot gun from the van with bullets.
The deputy director said that private security company was unregistered and the said van was illegally carrying national and foreign currencies and illegally shifting the amounts to Lahore from Daska without any official record.
He said that the FIA has also arrested the accused person named Muhammad Akram, besides impounding the van as well, in this regard. Khalid Anees said that the FIA has registered a case against the accused under 23(1) F.E.R Act 1947, 109, 420 PPC r/w 13(20) 64 AO 1965.
The arrested person revealed during interrogation that he was shifting this bulk of the foreign currencies to two accused money changers Ammar Butt and Shehzad Butt in Lahore after getting it from a Daska based money-changing shop namely “Al-Noor Jewelry Shop” located at Sarafa Market Daska.
