Hyderabad ASO seizes smuggled items worth Rs 17m in October

HYDERABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate impounded smuggled vehicles and miscellaneous goods worth Rs 17.233 million involving duty/taxes to the tune of millions during October 2016.

Hyderabad Customs Collector Agha Shahid Majeed has launched a campaign against smuggling of vehicle and goods following the direction of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). The campaign remained successful during the said month, as the anti-smuggling squad foiled various attempts and seized goods worth Rs 17.233 million.

The collector formed raiding teams under the supervision of Additional Collector Rahmatullah Vistro and Additional Collector Omer Shafique. The teams comprising Deputy Superintendent Sikander Akbar Pahnwar, Deputy Superintendent Anwar Ahmed Siddiqui, Inspectors Waqar Baig, Nazim Ali, Saleem Khan, Shafi Mohammad, Syed Aqil Hussan Jafri, Mushtaq Ali Lakho and others took part in the anti-smuggling operations.

Talking to Customs Today, Collector Aghah Shahid Majeed hailed the performance of the Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO), adding that the collectorate was improving its performance over the time by adopting effective strategies against the smuggling. He further said that anti-smuggling campaign will be more geared up in order to save the national economy.

The customs impounded non-duty paid Nissan Patrol Jeep bearing Registration No AD-4781, 808 cartons of cigarette different brands worth Rs 1.01 million, 900 packets of  gutka worth Rs 427,500, foreign origin 30 pieces of CNG cylinder of different sizes worth Rs 600,000, foreign origin 15 PP bags, 77,700 sachets of  Indian gutka of Safina brand worth Rs 388,500, cigarette and gutka worth Rs 283,200 and 537 bottles of foreign origin perfumes of different brands worth Rs 434,400 during October 2016.
