ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police inspector General Tariq (IG) Masood Yasin, said that Islamabad would be made a role model city in terms of security and peace. He said business community was playing an important role by running the wheel of the economy and Police would take all possible steps to provide them a conducive environment for growth of business activities. He said many initiatives were underway to improve security in markets, industrial areas and the overall city and urged that business community should become partner in these initiatives to make them successful and result-oriented. He expressed these views while addressing a large gathering of business community at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Malik Matool Ahmed Awan, SSP Traffic Police also accompanied him.
IG Police, ICT said he wanted to introduce community policing by involving local community in the efforts aimed at improving security situation in the city. He said new systems would be introduced to provide people friendly police services and information technology would be fully exploited to make Islamabad Police a more efficient and effective institute to deliver up to the expectations of the citizens. He said new Reconciliatory Committee would be set up in Police Stations and assured that business community would be given proper representation in such Committees. He said his doors were opened for everyone and market unions could visit his office for finding out optimum solutions of their problems. He said people could approach him through social media and he would try his best to resolve their issues.
In his welcome address, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) president Atif Ikram Sheikh highlighted various police related issues of business community and requested IG Police, ICT to take concrete measures to resolve them. He said Reconciliation Committees in every Police Station of Islamabad should be revived and ICCI representatives should be included in such Committees to resolve business community issues peacefully.
He said in the past, police and market unions had signed an agreement that in case of complaint against any trader, police would contact concerned market union before taking action against trader to sort out problems with mutual consensus. He urged that said agreement should be revived as it was quite helpful in solving disputes peacefully. He said police patrolling should be increased in markets and industrial areas to improve security situation. He said that police should consider setting up Police Citizen Liaison Committees to bridge gap and build confidence of citizens on police. He said beggars were on the rise in Islamabad and creating nuance for business community. He stressed that police should take strong measures to purge Islamabad of the beggars. Representatives of local markets also highlighted issues of their respective markets and IG Police assured to look into them for redress.
