Customs Court confirms interim bails of two suspects involved in illegal export of donkey hides

KARACHI: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling confirmed the interim bail granted to two suspects in a case pertaining to the illegal export of donkey hides.

Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi announced the verdict after hearing arguments from prosecution and defense sides.  The court granted interim bail to suspect Nasir Mehmood and Muhammad Ibrahim with surety amount of Rs 100,000.

On October 17, the customs authorities confiscated 1,200 donkey hides and 2,500 kilograms of goat hair from a consignment destined for Hong Kong.

M/s Nival International filed general declaration of the consignment which was declared to contain 2,500 kilograms of goat hair and 1,200 wet salted dry skins. During physical examination, wet salted dry skins found to be donkey hides which could not be exported since the government placed a ban on their export.

Therefore, the customs authorities registered a case against M/s Nival International’s proprietor Muhammad Arif and M/s Exports Services’ proprietors Nasir Mehmood and Muhammad Ibrahim under the Sections 16, 32(I), 131(7)(a), 168 and 209 of the Customs Act 1969.
