Jhang ASO seizes engine oil worth Rs 3.2m

FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO), Jhang has confiscated non-duty paid engine oil worth Rs 3.245 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 1.381 million, besides impounding Hino Truck being used for smuggling.

The ASO received information through Collector Zulfiqar Ali Chaudhary regarding the smuggling. Following the information, Deputy Collector Muhammad Rizwan Khan along with his team intercepted a Hino Truck bearing Registration No TKC-417 coming from Quetta to Faisalabad, near Multan Road, Jhang.

During checking of the vehicle, the team recovered 24,960 litre of foreign origin engine oil and asked the driver of vehicle namely as Abdul Nafai son of Karam Khan to produce documents regarding lawful possession and legal import of the oil.

He produced a receipt carrying GD No. 3688 which showed descriptions as motor oil of Alvand brand, while physical examination of goods revealed that the goods in question were manufacturing on June 20, 2016 whereas, the GD was field on June 16, 2016.

After finding ambiguity, the ASO team seized the oil under Section 2(s), read with SRO 566(1)/2005 section 16 and 18 of the Customs Act 1969 punishable under Section 156(i)90 of the Custom Act, 1969 read with section 3(1)3 of the Import and Export Control Act, 1950 also read with notification SRO.
