Jhang ASO seizes foreign origin almonds 1542kg

FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), Jhang has confiscated non-duty paid almonds during road checking worth Rs 1.518 million involving customs duty taxes of Rs 222041.

Sources told to Customs Today that the ASO received information through Collector Zulifqar Ali Chaudhary regarding the smuggling of non-duty paid almonds. Following the information, Deputy Collector Muhammad Rizwan Khan intercepted a trailer Bearing Registration No, TLY- 030 (Lasbila), along with team near By-Pass jhang Bhakkar Road jhang city.

During the checking of the vehicles the ASO team recovered foreign origin almonds (1542.84-Kgs), Brand California Shelled Spice king Lakhani Unpasteurized Product of USA and asked the driver the vehicle namely Kamran Aziz son of Abdul Aziz residential Chak No, 165 TDA T/D Layyah, to produce any legal documentary regarding lawful possession of the almonds but he remained failed to satisfy the officials.

Therefore, the ASO team seizes the almonds under Section 16 and 18 of the Customs Act 1969 punishable under Section 156(i)90 of the Custom Act, 1969 read with section 3(1)3 of the import and export control Act 1950 also read with notification SRO 499(I)/2009.

The ASO team comprising Superintendent Saeed Akhtar Joiya, Inspectors Shaukat Khan, Munir Ahmad, Khalid Ashraf Noor and sepoys including Ghulam Abbas, Ghulam Sarwar, Muhammad Ajmal and Ahmad Bux seized the above mentioned items and forward the case to Customs Adjudication for further proceedings.
