PESHAWAR: Customs Collectorate foiled several attempts of smuggling and earned Rs3.5 million in last ten days of August.
Sources confirmed Customs Today on Monday that prior tip ups were given by high ups of anti- smuggling unit to customs officials posted at different customs check posts that activities will be carried out to smuggle foreign origin goods. First attempt was foiled at Kharkhano Check post where car was seized upon possessing foreign origin cloth and other cosmetic goods.
The car was impounded while the driver was arrested from the scene and FIR was filed against him according Customs Act of 1969.
Second attempt of smuggling was thwarted at GT Road near Sokano Mor where ASO team intercepted a Suzuki pick up during routine check-up which was loaded with foreign origin tyres and spare parts of vehicles.
The squad on the spot inquired about the purchaser legal documents upon which the driver failed to provide. The Suzuki pick up was impounded while the NDP goods were dumped and case was registered against the accused driver.
Third attempt of smuggling was thwarted on Motorway Toll Plaza where fine quality 15 kilogram hashish and five kilogram fine quality of opium was recovered from a car on the way to Islamabad from Peshawar. In the same way following directions of collector to curb the menace of smuggling an Afghan national was arrested on Torkham border for possession foreign currency.
The sources in customs House Peshawar confirmed that strict directives has been issued by Collector Customs Saeed Jadoon to increase revenue by curbing smuggling and stop leakage to Customs exchequer in order to enlarge the revenue collections of MCC.
Meanwhile the Customs Collector Mohammed Saeed Jadoon asked the customs officers to pay surprise visits to different customs check posts in order to keep eye on the activities of customs staff.
Collector Customs have said that no tolerance will be done once officials of customs department were found not performing their duties. These seizures have added valuable amount to the collection made of Customs House Peshawar the sources confirmed.
