ISLAMABAD: The car cell of the Customs Collectorate, Peshawar, impounded 16 non-duty paid vehicles during August 2016-17 worth Rs 29.3 million.
The deputy collector anti-smuggling said that Customs Collectorate is taking strict action against smugglers and owners of non-duty paid vehicles.
He said that Afghan transit trade is main factor of smuggling. “We must identify and understand this problem and must stop trafficking of smuggled items and non-duty paid vehicles.
He said that some of media houses are making hurdles through promotion of yellow journalism against the anti-smuggling activities. The collectorate said he had already sent notices to the media houses of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who are making hurdles in curbing the smuggling.
The deputy collector said that the Peshawar Collectorate is seriously working to discourage tax evaders, smugglers and narcotics trafficking.
Due to huge seizers of non-duty paid and smuggled items, the Collectorate needed to set auctions two times a month. The State warehouses is jam-packed with goods and vehicles so Collectorate called for auction one after another.
The Deputy collector said that FBR has issued special instructions to all customs departments including Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Customs Airport Staff, Field Investigation Units and all checking teams to take quick and appropriate steps to arrest smugglers to curb the transfer of smuggled goods along with those who are using the smuggled vehicles, under the Customs Act 1969.
