ISLAMABAD: The Customs Collectorate Peshawar steps up efforts to curb smuggling and control menace of non-duty paid vehicles .
Deputy Collector Muhammad Amin expressed these views during an exclusive interview with Customs Today. He said that the anti-smuggling squad conducting raids everywhere under its jurisdiction such as airport, railway station and other places.
He said that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has adopted comprehensive measures against smugglers and owners of non-duty paid vehicles. He said that “the people involved in smuggling of goods, narcotics, money laundering or smuggling of non-customs paid vehicles will not be spared.” Deputy Collector Amin said, “If the Customs Department does not impound non-duty paid vehicles, those can be used for terrorist activities.”
Deputy Collector Muhammad Amin is serving in Pakistan Customs since 1979. He joined customs department as superintendent after that he was promoted as assistant collector and deputy collector.
He said that smugglers used Pak-Afghan transit trade route for smuggling in the region, when smuggled goods reached to Afghanistan via Pakistan then same goods came back again to Pakistani market from different routes especially from Torkham border which is causing harm to local market of KPK and other areas of the country.
Deputy Collector Amin said that during year 2015 the Customs Intelligence, Customs Station Kohat and Customs Peshawar collectively hold auctions to generate more revenues but now from the beginning of upcoming financial year 2016-17, all the said stations organize auctions. He said that Customs Warehouse is facing the issue of space shortage
He said due to shortage of enough space at State Warehouse , Customs authorities are conducting auctions regularly. He said that Collectorate collected Rs 10 million by holding auction on August 27.
He expressed his satisfaction on the overall performance of the saying that Peshawar Customs will definitely achieve revenue collection target set for Financial Year 2016-17.
