Research and Development section of Appraisement-East recovers Rs 11 million in Feb

KARACHI: The Research and Development (R&D) section of Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) of Appraisement-East has found 13 cases of short recovery in February 2015 and recovered Rs 11 million from different importers. The importers were allegedly involved in violation of FTA, valuation guideline, exemption of undue SROs, incorrect values of PCT, mis-declaration of classification and valuation rulings.

According to details, the R&D team has found 13 cases of revenue shortfall amounting to Rs 11 million in February 2015 and also issued demand notices to the alleged importers in order to recover the evaded amount.
The R&D Section through Goods Declaration (GD) KAPE-HC-91816-020215 has recovered revenue shortfall of Rs 48,318 in violation of correct valuation ruling during clearance of consignment containing ISO Propyl Alcohol .
The section also recovered an amount of Rs39, 379 through a GD KAPE-HC-92813-030215 in clearance of PCS sheets’ consignments in violation of correct valuation ruling.
It has also recovered an amount of Rs33,9205 through a GD KAPE-HC-43842-231113 in which the importer was availing incorrect benefit of SRO-567(I)/2006 in clearance of Ciprofloxacin/Furozolidance consignments .
The R&D Section recovered an amount of Rs93,268 through GD KAPE-HC-88356-240115 in which the importer was availing incorrect benefit of FTA in clearance of the consignments of hot fix tape.
The R&D Section in its continued efforts in order to recover the leaking amount has detected a revenue shortfall of Rs 693,000 during an audit of Yousuf Packages in clearance of the consignment which was implemented incorrect valuation.
In another case, the R&D team has detected a revenue shortfall amounting to Rs 429,825 through a GD KAPE-HC-91080-300115 in which the importer was tried to clearance the consignment of Methanol Fuel in currency of Dirham instead of US dollar.
It has also recovered an amount of Rs750,000 through a GD KAPE-HC-12273-060814 in which the importer was attempted to clear the consignments of Polyester Film on incorrect classification.
The R&D Section has also recovered an amount of Rs 99,647 through a GD KAPE-HC-97429-130215 in which the importer was tried to clear the consignment of non-woven PU coated leather by implementing incorrect valuation.
The R&D Section has also recovered an amount of Rs 42,015 through a GD KAPE-HC-99239-170215 in which the importer was tried to clear the consignment of Polypropylene by implementing incorrect valuation.
It has also recovered an amount of Rs151,422 through a GD KAPE-HC-91640-310115 in which the importer was tried to clear the consignment of PVC Clear Zipper by implementing incorrect SRO125 related to Sales Tax Act, 1990.
It has also recovered an amount of Rs 84,982 through a GD KAPE-HC-102076-230215 in which the importer tried to clear the consignment of High Density Polyethylene by implementing incorrect valuation.
The R&D Section has also recovered an amount of Rs134,026 through a GD KAPE-HC-62578-021214 in which the importer was tried to clear the consignment of Ammonium Bi-carbonate by implementing incorrect valuation.
The R&D Section has also recovered an amount of Rs 8.099279 million through two GDs KAPE-IB-2017-120713 and KAPE-IB-5394-230713 in which the importer tried to clear the consignment of panaflex illegally.
It is pertinent to mention here that the revenue recovery of the R&D Section of MCC-Appraisement (East) has been decreased frequently in two consecutive months i.e. January-2015 and February-2015, as the recovery amount in both the months was stood around Rs10 million to 15million. However; the recovery of R&D Section touched to Rs20million in previous months of the last year.
