ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed to de-notify four director generals (DGs) of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) whom initial appointment could not be justified by the eligibility criteria.
The court ordered to sack DG NAB Lahore Bhurhan Ali, DG NAB Quetta Tariq Mahmood, DG NAB Karachi Shabbir Ahmed and DG Awareness and Prevention Aliya Rashid.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Amir Hani Muslim heard the suo moto notice case regarding alleged illegalities, corruption and violations in NAB appointments.The bench also ordered that appointments to the now-vacant posts could be made through the Federal Public Services Commission (FPSC). The NAB chairman could fill those posts on a temporary basis until new appointments were made, it added.
Justice Hani remarked that the structure of the accountability watchdog could be strengthened through proper appointments. During the course of proceedings, the Secretary NAB informed the court that 35 out of 137 employees, whose appointments had been found irregular, had accepted early retirement.
The court formed a committee comprising the Establishment Secretary, a human resources representative from NAB and an FPSC member to inquire into the educational qualifications of the remaining 102 officers of the Bureau.
The committee will also issue show cause notices to the employees of the bureau before listening to their testimonies. The court has ordered the committee to submit a report within three months.
