Sialkot Customs collects Rs 10.6m of customs duty in four months of FY 2016-17

SIALKOT: The Customs Collectorate has collected Rs 10.6 million under the head of customs duty in first four months (i.e. July to October) of the current fiscal year.

Sources told Customs Today that Customs Collectorate Sialkot has surpassed the revenue collection target under the head of customs duty as compared with the collection of during the corresponding period of the last year. Sources said that during the last financial year, the Customs Collectorate collected Rs 6.96 million under the head of the customs duty.

Sources said that Sialkot region had collected Rs 5.63 million as customs duty during September and October  2016  which is Rs 1.31 million more than the Rs 2.333 million collection of the same period of last year, 2015. Sources said that the department is striving hard to achieve the revenue collection target under all heads for current fiscal year 2016-17.

Sources also denied the impression that customs officials received customs duty in advance from the importers in order to meet the targets. Sources told the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has to revise the revenue collection targets sometimes keeping in view the unfavorable circumstances, adding that tax collection was increasing every year due to effective policies of the department.

Sources told that all customs staff is working hard to achieve revenue collection target set for FY 2016-17 and they are using all available resources to generate more revenue. Sources said that exports from Sialkot Dry Port Trust (SDPT) are increasing day by day and there are strong chances that Sialkot Customs will surpass their assigned revenue collection target for Fiscal Year 2016-17.
