Two customs officials acquitted of statues’ smuggling charge

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved the acquittal plea of two Pakistan Customs’ officials in a case pertaining to the smuggling of expensive and historical statues from Lahore to Bangkok.

According to the details, a case of statues smuggling was scheduled for hearing before the special court where Chaudhary Ameer Muhamamd Khan, after hearing the arguments of the lawyers, acquitted the officials named Suhail Ahmad and Shahid.

The Customs Court also ordered the Customs authorities to handover these statues to the management of the Lahore Fort for keeping them in museum.

On the other hand, the main accused of the case Ammar is released on pre-arrest bail. He was involved in smuggling of these statues from Peshawar to Lahore and then intended to smuggle them to Bangkok.
