SAN JUAN: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Field Operations officers arrested yesterday a previously deported undocumented man attempting to board the San Juan-Santo Domingo ferry.

“CBP officers are watchful to find persons illegally present in the US who attempt to elude detection and bypass our laws,” stated Marcelino Borges, Director of Field Operations for Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
Mr Sambo was found attempting to board the Ferry Caribbean Fantasy at the Pan American Dock in Isla Grande. The ferry was bound to the City of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and he presented CBP Officers a Dominican Republic passport containing no visa or document for proof of authorized presence in the US.
During secondary inspection, a biometric database revealed that Mr. Sambo had been found illegally present in Puerto Rico in 2001 and 2003, and had been deported accordingly.
He admitted that he reentered illegally into Puerto Rico in January 2014, somewhere near the west coast city of Mayaguez.
CBP field operations officers presented the case to Assistant US Attorney Maria Montanez who accepted the case for prosecution.
If convicted, Mr. Sambo could be fined, imprisoned not more than 2 years or both.
All defendants are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
