Vehicle loaded with 300 bags of Indian ginger valued at Rs03m impounded

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Rapid Response Force Islamabad took into possession fresh Indian ginger along with an offending vehicle worth Rs3.00million at the Motorway Intersection Islamabad.

According to details explained by Assistant Collector Majid Husain Gaad of Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Islamabad that, on a tip-off, Saeed Khan Jadoon, Collector MCC Islamabad, the Rapid Response Force (RRF) set up a picket at the Motorway Intersection and intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration No: EA-1734. The Rapid Response Force (RRF) staff asked the possessor of goods to provide any tax paid proof but he failed to do so.
Assistant Collector RRF told CT that, after a search, the ASO staff found 300 bags of Indian origin fresh ginger which were seized. An FIR was registered against the possessors of the item. No proof under Section 3 (1) of the Imports and Exports Trade Control Act-1950 was produced in term of the said article. The import of above said item is prohibited under Section 16 of the Customs Act-1969. Accordingly, said article was seized under Section 156 (1) (89) (90) of 1969.
The Customs RRF deposited the article in the state warehouse along with the offending vehicle (vehicle used for carrying smuggling goods). The case has been forwarded to the Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) Department for further investigation.
The party, which took part in the action, comprised Inspector Shahrukh Butt, Superintendent Abdul Malaak and Junaid of the RRF of MCC Islamabad.
