ISLAMABAD: Assistant Collector Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) Customs Tahir Iqbal Khattak has said that customs authorities have generated Rs 50 million through auction of miscellaneous goods and non-duty paid vehicles.
Talking to Customs Today, during an exclusive interview, Tahir Iqbal Khattak said, “We were expecting revenue of Rs 30 to Rs 35 million but we collected more revenue than our expectations.” He said that the customs was planning to hold two more auctions during the month of May. He said that the customs authorities seized smuggled goods worth Rs 200 million during anti-smuggling campaigns. He said that the results of anti-smuggling campaign, which started from February 17, are very fruitful and positive.
He said we will encourage every official and staff member who shows outstanding performance while performing his official duties. He said FBR high-ups already approved the cash award for the employees. He said that the credit of our best performance goes to collector Arsalam Subuctageen who provides guidance on each and every step. He said collector Arsalan issued special instructions to make this auction as transparent. He said superintendent investigation and prosecution Zarham Dil also played a vital role in auction, because it is first time that a common man also participate in auction.
He said that there were 48 vehicles offered for auction from which 36 were already sold out, and we received more than our reserve prices. He said that this auction is evidence of best performance of customs. He also revealed that there were two kinds of vehicles which were offered for auction first there was non-duty paid vehicles and secondly which were imported into the country after violation of rules and regulations. He said some vehicles were not sold due to non-issuance of NOC by ministry of interior.
He said Yamaya heavy bike was sold in Rs 1 million while three other vehicle were not sold due to stay order issued by relevant court. He said we directed our entire staff to speed up their anti-smuggling efforts and not to spare anyone who found involved in smuggling.
He said that government already provided us with latest vehicles to curb smuggling from our society. He said there is 60 percent decrease in smuggling from Peshawar to other parts of the country.
He said we are trying our best to resolve the issue of shortage of staff on priority basis because this will enhance our performance.
