KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate, Gwadar, has seized portable air conditioners, deep freezers and a huge quantity of Iranian diesel worth Rs 8.3 million during two different raids, besides arresting five accused persons.
Sources said that Gwadar Customs Collector Saeed Akram received information regarding a godown that has been established by the smugglers to store the smuggled items. Later, these smuggled items are supplied to other cities of the country.
The collector also got information that a huge cache of portable air conditions has been concealed in the godown, on which he formed an anti-smuggling team comprising Abdullah Shah, Junejo Khan and others.
The team conducted raid in an area, Hoshab and recovered more than 100 pieces of portable air conditioners and 50 deep freezers worth Rs 6 million. The officials also arrested three suspects from the scene.
During another action, the Gwadar Customs confiscated 32,000 litres of Iranian diesel worth Rs 2.3 million, besides arresting two suspects.
As per details, Collector Saeed Akram following credible information deployed an anti-smuggling team at exit points of the city to curb smuggling of Iranian diesel. The team intercepted an oil tanker and recovered huge quantity of diesel.
The officials confiscated the recovered diesel after the driver and another person failed to show documents regarding legal import of the diesel. The customs officials also arrested two accused persons during the raid.
