KARACHI: The importers have demanded the Federal Board of Revenue and Customs to abolish the penalty of Rs 50,000 in case the invoice are not found in the containers.

The importers said that the Customs authorities should adopt a uniform process for customs valuation of the imported goods all over the country. “The repeated examination of same imported item by the same importer is irritating and this system should be stopped immediately”, they demanded.

Moreover, the importers said that the time period for examination of the import consignments should be confined to two days while the lab testing facilities should also be updated in all Customs Houses. The free demurrage period should be enhanced to 10 days for those consignments which are declared for examination, they further said.

Furthermore, the importers demanded that the branches of National Bank of Pakistan situated in industrial and in those cities where customs stations are located should be allowed to collect the taxes and other charges to facilitate the importers and accelerate revenue collection as well.
