LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has disposed of a petition filed by Minhajul Quran challenging the audit notice by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
The single bench comprising Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh was hearing the matter.
Earlier, the petitioner submitted to court that Minhajul Quran was a welfare organization therefore has exemption from tax.
He was of the view in his petition that no tax had been imposed on Minhajul Quran since 1982 but now FBR had issued audit notices to the institution on political basis. He pleaded the court to set aside the notice issued by FBR.
However, FBR Inland Revenue Department’s counsel contended that Minhajul Quran was not a welfare organization and it was bound to pay tax. In their statement they said that department issued notices to the petitioner-organization but first they sought time and then they refused to appear on second notice..
The court, disposing of the matter, directed the petitioner to challenge the decision through a new petition or avail the other available remedy.
