ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan-Jordan Joint Business Council (JBC) will meet on May 16-17 to discuss trade and investment.
The Jordan Chamber of Commerce and Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry have decided to hold inaugural session of the Joint Business Council on May 16.
After the ninth session of the Jordan-Pakistan Joint Ministerial Commission meeting held in Amman, another will be held in Pakistan to look into the possibilities of implementation of the agreed points.
According to sources, a memorandum of understanding on cooperation and the exchange of information between Jordan Securities Commission and Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan — signed in 2012 — needs to be activated.
A proposal moved by the Jordanian side regarding the agreement on general cooperation in expertise and knowledge exchange in the field of banking and finance between the Central Bank of Jordan and the State Bank of Pakistan will be studied and further refined in the coming JBC session as agreed by the Pakistani side to study and revert back to the Jordanian side on this matter.
Cooperation Agreement between the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) and the Jordanian Investment Commission (JIC) and agreed to prepare a roadmap for organizing trade fairs and exhibitions in Pakistan and Jordan.
Another issue of increasing their imports from the Jordanian Potash & Phosphate will also be discussed. The Arab Potash Company, which is working with IPNI International Plant Nutrition on a project to promote the balanced fertilizer concept in Pakistan, requested that the Government of Pakistan may consider providing incentives for exports of Jordanian Potash and Phosphate to Pakistan. Pakistani side agreed to consider this.
Pakistan’s diverse market of electronics, cutlery and engineering products will also be taken and followed up in the upcoming meeting of JBC..
Pakistan and Jordan signed a protocol on Agricultural Cooperation on June 27 and Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture will prepare a working plan for implementing the protocol and share the same with Pakistani side.
Lifting of ban, imposed by the Jordanian government, on import of poultry and meat from Pakistan will also be discussed on the forum of JBC because World Organization of Animal Health (OIE) has already declared ‘Bird Flu Free’ status for Pakistan since 2008 and since then, many countries including Saudi Arabia and UAE have already lifted the ban. The Jordan has promised to lift the ban once the OIE issues its updated report, since some cases were reported in 2013.
The finalization of the Executive Programme for Cultural and Scientific Cooperation between the Governments of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for the Years 2015-2016-2017. The proposed draft executive Programme for Cultural and Scientific Cooperation for the Years 2015-2017 to the Pakistani side will also be reviewed.
